It can be frustrating for single travellers looking for a good value Kimberley coastal cruise. Most cruise offers are based on twin or double share and it can be prohibitively expensive for a single traveller to have such a cabin on their own. This may well change in the future as the travel industry, in general, catches up with the increasing demand from single travellers. Eventually, a more equitable situation will develop for single travellers but in the meantime here are some Kimberley cruise options where single travellers can get a fair price.
Best Options For Kimberley Cruises For Singles
Le Bellot By Ponant
Le Bellot is a 5* expedition ship that was launched earlier this year (2020) to join the ever-growing Ponant fleet. The ship was just 180 passengers and operates 10-night cruises along the Kimberley coast between Broome and Darwin and vice versa. There is a great to like about this ship including:
- All-day inclusive meals and drinks
- All cabins with balconies
- Lectures and evening shows
- 2 restaurants and an amazing underwater bar
- A full programme of Kimberley excursions led by an Australian expedition team
- Swimming pool
Single travellers for 2021 and 2022 can access Deluxe Balcony staterooms on selected departures from $12990 – no sharing whatsoever.
For us this is the standout opportunity for single travellers.
Coral Discoverer, Coral Adventurer, Coral Geographer
These three sister ships operate 10 night itineraries between Broome and Darwin and vice versa and are some of the most popular ships in the Kimberley. They each have a limited number of cabins available for single travellers:
Coral Discover – Promenade Deck B cabins from $17,910
Coral Geographer – Promenade Deck cabins from $11,475
Coral Adventurer – Coral deck from $15,435.
Eco Abrolhos
A much smaller vessel than Le Bellot with a more intimate and relaxed style is the Eco Abrolhos; a 35m catamaran that takes 32 passengers in 17 rooms. Their 13-night itineraries between Broome and Darwin showcase all the must-see Kimberley icons with plenty of opportunities to fish, walk and (above the croc line) swim.
Lower Deck Single bunk cabins (with full private en-suite bathroom) are $12075
This cabin has bunk beds so you can use the spare bunk as storage.
Opt To Share (and hope you don’t have to!)
Some of the smaller ships operating out of Broome offer an ‘opt to share’ booking process. In this instance you can book at the twin person price in the acknowledgment that you may end up sharing with someone of the same gender. However if no other person books then you end up with the cabin on your own with no extra to pay! It is a bit of a gamble but we think around 50% of the time our passengers end up not sharing.
Ships that offer this facility include True North, Kimberley Quest and Odyssey.
