About the Odyssey

MV Odyssey boasts luxury and practicality, it is a custom built exploration vessel designed specifically for the Kimberley coast. MV Odyssey cruises by day so that you enjoy the many spectacular sights of the Kimberley coast and anchors in calm, sheltered waters at night so you enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep. MV Odyssey is the only vessel of its kind in the region to have a magnificent upper deck shaded alfresco and bar area where you can relax in comfort, dine, drink and enjoy the vast panoramic views of what the Kimberley has on offer.

MV Odyssey is accompanied by three tender vessels: Homer, Argos and Athena. Homer, our primary tender vessel provides easy access boarding, carries all guests with ease, has comfortable cushioned seating, on-board toilet and washing facilities and most importantly lots of shade cover to protect you from the Kimberley sun. Homer allows us to explore deeper into the creeks and tributaries to find the vast array of hidden wonders often overlooked by other carriers. Argos and Athena enable us to participate in a variety of activities such as fishing and mud crabbing.

Taking a maximum of 20 guests Odyssey Expeditions specialises in personalised tours, no waiting in turn for an excursion, MV Odyssey gives the opportunity for all travelers to participate together. Rather than just skimming the coastline Odyssey Expeditions will show you the Kimberley wilderness in depth and detail. MV Odyssey can complete an excursion and move on to show you another spectacular Kimberley site in the same time it takes a larger vessel to anchor or tie up.

Power Sockets

Footwear Adventure

Expedition travel is about getting to remote places that are often rocky, sandy, wet and glasslands. Sturdy, comfortable footwear is essential. Each destination may have slightly different requirements however every cruise will require runners or walking boots that are worn in and comfortable. If you are worried about ankles etc make sure you have boots that support you.

Important Note

For wet landings, cheaper neoprene reef shoes, flip-flops, and crocs are not suitable for any terrain. If you do not want to invest in a new pair of sandals, you can use old runners (that will get ruined) for getting your feet wet and then change into dry walking shoes. This does mean carrying a second pair of shoes and a hand towel to dry your feet.

Hard sole shoes that you do not mind getting wet which are secure on your feet, reef walkers or old sneakers are suitable.

All vessels are equipped to deal with the majority dietary requirements with 4 weeks notice.  If you have any questions or concerns please speak with us prior to booking a cruise.

All meals, breakfast, lunch, dinner, morning and afternoon teas are all freshly prepared by our on board chef. Dietary requirements are catered for just let us know when booking.

Beverages, complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate, a range of soft drinks and juices are available at all times. Alcoholic beverages are available from the bar, all very reasonably priced.

A big part of being on an ‘expedition’ is getting away to the more remote corners of the world. This can mean interrupted signals and service on board.

There is no mobile service available while travelling in the Kimberley. For emergency contact, Odyssey Expeditions has a satellite phone which guests can use at the cost of $4.00 per minute.

Satellite internet packages can be purchased on board for $80 per person for the duration of your cruise. This includes 500MB of data per day. Note that the satellite connection is not sufficient for streaming videos but can be used for messaging apps such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger as well as access to emails and light web browsing.

Fishing: An Optional Adventure

Enjoy the thrill of fishing in the Kimberley! Fishing excursions can be an alternative to scenic tours or walks. Fishing gear is provided, however you’re welcome to bring your own rod and reel for bottom fishing or lure casting.

Important Note

While we love offering fishing opportunities, this is an expedition vessel, not a dedicated fishing charter. Please pack light on gear and keep in mind that all catches are enjoyed onboard and cannot be taken home.

Embrace the Wild Kimberley: Getting Ashore

The Kimberley’s dramatic tides and untouched landscapes create unique opportunities for adventure. With no wharfs, each landing is a thrilling experience:

  • Wade Through the Wonders: Feel the Kimberley’s essence as you step from tenders onto sandy shores, crushed coral, or rocky outcrops.
  • Explore Diverse Terrain: Hike across rugged rocks, through spinifex grasslands, and over mudflats. You might even ascend a ladder or traverse a waterfall!
  • Water Adventures: Prepare to splash through freshwater streams and saltwater pools on your journey.

This is not your typical cruise – it’s an immersive expedition into the heart of Australia’s wilderness.

Odyssey’s 12m expedition vessel Homer truly sets the expedition apart from other cruise vessels. Homer is able to travel up the smaller creeks and tributaries as she carries all 20 guests in comfort and safety, whilst two quiet motors will ensure you don’t miss a word of the naturalist tour. Homer has comfortable seating and lots of shade cover, ideal for the hot Kimberley sun. Homer also boasts an easy access ramp and stairs for landings and on-board toilet and water facilities.

Transfers between your accommodation and Odyssey are included.

A scenic Helicopter flight over the Mitchell Falls to the Mitchell Plateau landing strip and light aircraft transfer between Mitchell Plateau and Broome is also included (for the Kimberley Cruise and Fly itinerary).

Transfer options vary depending on your itinerary. Please ask us for specific details. 1300 654 861 or contact@expeditionpartners.com.au
