Power Sockets

Each cabin is equipped with 110v and 240v Australian power points. The voltage will also support personal electronic devices such as hair straighteners and shavers. There is also a standard hotel-style hairdryer in every cabin.

Clothes

Generally, clothing should be casual and lightweight. Bring 4 or 5 changes of clothes including shorts, t-shirts, collared and long sleeve shirts (to avoid sunburn), windcheater, waterproof jacket.

Include a hat, sunglasses, sunburn cream, insect repellent and toiletries. Night time wear on True North is smart casual.

Footwear Adventure

Expedition travel is about getting to remote places that are often rocky, sandy, wet and glasslands. Sturdy, comfortable footwear is essential. Each destination may have slightly different requirements however every cruise will require runners or walking boots that are worn in and comfortable. If you are worried about ankles etc make sure you have boots that support you.

Important Note

For wet landings, cheaper neoprene reef shoes, flip-flops, and crocs are not suitable for any terrain. If you do not want to invest in a new pair of sandals, you can use old runners (that will get ruined) for getting your feet wet and then change into dry walking shoes. This does mean carrying a second pair of shoes and a hand towel to dry your feet.

Please note that heavy suitcases are definitely not permitted aboard TRUE NORTH. Our remote operation often requires items to be transferred in difficult circumstances and it is simply not practical to handle heavy personal baggage.

Please note True North Adventure Cruises has a maximum luggage allowance of 20kg per person (one soft bag). This is sometimes more than what domestic airlines will allow. You will need to check luggage restrictions and excess baggage charges with your nominated airline.

  • The True North serves up sustainable, organic Australian dishes using top-notch local ingredients. They blend modern and traditional cooking methods to create diverse menus inspired by different destinations. With ever-changing offerings, diners can expect a unique culinary experience tailored to each trip.
  • A wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are available onboard including an impressive selection of wines.
  • All non-alcoholic drinks are complimentary. Passengers are only permitted to BYO drinks aboard the vessel (with prior approval) in instances where the desired drink is not available from the ship’s bar. Corkage is applicable to “BYO” drinks.

Please note that the vessel’s “BYO” policy is in accordance with True North Adventure Cruises’ obligation to responsibly manage the consumption of alcohol onboard the vessel.

Further, True North Adventure Cruises reserves the right to refuse to serve alcohol to any passenger

All cabins feature satellite telephones. Email and web access is available through a wireless satellite internet system. Charges apply to all off ship communications.

Fishing: An Optional Adventure

On the water

With six specialized adventure boats accompanying the True North, guests have the flexibility to pursue their interests on their own terms. The ample supply of tenders also allows us to tailor fishing experiences to varying skill levels and preferences. Guests can fish comfortably while receiving the renowned individualized attention that the True North is known for.

In the Air

The helicopter on board also brings an exciting element to fishing on the True North. Heli-fishing is a top favorite among our guests – imagine soaring over breathtaking wilderness in cool comfort to reach spots otherwise unreachable! Who wouldn’t want to cast their line where few have ventured before?

The True North carries a full complement of high quality fishing equipment. Rods, reels and hand lines are provided for your complimentary convenience however keen anglers are welcome to bring their own gear (6-8kg bait casting outfits are recommended). Lures are available on a replacement if lost basis.

Diving and Snorkeling

Please note that diving and snorkeling activities may be offered on your upcoming adventure. It is therefore important that you familiarise yourself with the following guidelines concerning equipment:

  • Snorkeling equipment (mask, snorkel & fins) is available for complimentary use on-board. However, bringing your own equipment is the best way to ensure a perfect fit.
  • We recommend that divers bring an appropriate exposure suit. A short sleeve/leg wetsuit may also be a good idea for snorkelers who get cold easily and a rash shirt provides excellent sun protection. Exposure suits may be available for sale on-board however we cannot guarantee that we will have your size in stock.
  • Divers are provided with cylinders, weight belts and weights.
  • Divers normally bring their own personal dive equipment including regulators, BCD and wetsuit.
  • True North has limited dive equipment (BCDs, regulators and dive computers) available for hire on-board. Please confirm arrangements in advance.
  • It is highly recommended that divers bring their own dive computer. THE SHARING OF DIVE COMPUTERS IS NOT PERMITTED.
  • Divers MUST dive with a safety sausage. If you do not bring your own you will be required to purchase one on-board.
  • Night dives MAY be offered. If you intend to night dive, you MUST bring your own primary light source. A secondary or back up light source is also recommended. Dive lights may be available for sale on-board however stock levels cannot be guaranteed.
  • Divers MUST provide proof of certification on-board.

Onboard Helicopter

The EC130 B4, known for its ultra-quiet operation, incorporates cutting-edge technology from EUROCOPTER’s latest generation of helicopters. With a maximum gross weight of 2.4 tonnes, it boasts a spacious cabin that comfortably seats a pilot and six passengers on luxurious individual leather seats. Equipped with air-conditioning and large cabin windows, it’s ideal for scenic aerial expeditions.

Overseeing heli-ops is Rob Colbert, the chief pilot at Skyhook Helicopters. With over two decades of experience flying in and around the Kimberley region, Rob has been closely associated with True North for much of his career. Alongside his passion for flying, Rob has a deep interest in fishing, local history, and indigenous culture. He’s crafted engaging commentary for all True North heli-flights.

The True North operates 6 dedicated adventure boats. Our adventure boats are 20’ runabouts. We have deliberately chosen this configuration to provide greater comfort, practicality and safety.

Our boats are much more comfortable than rubber boats. They feature ample seating and when the boat is not under way, it is possible to stand-up and walk around.

This is a definite advantage when engaging in activities such as fishing, snorkeling, diving and photography.

Our adventure boats are fully surveyed by the Australian maritime authorities which means the wearing of life jackets is not required and we also believe that they are much safer than rubber boats when operating in crocodile country

Embarkation is normally at 1700 hours on the day of departure and disembarkation is normally at 0800 hours on the last day of the cruise. However, please refer to your cruise documents for confirmation especially when traveling to West Papua or PNG.

Transfer options vary depending on your itinerary. Please ask us for specific details. 1300 654 861 or contact@expeditionpartners.com.au
