What insurance do you need for a Kimberley cruise?

As insurance is a financial product, we are no longer legally able to provide specific advice. However, we have put together a number of important questions to help you assess whether a policy is suitable for your holiday.

Travel Insurance for Your Cruise – A Few Things Worth Checking

Once you’ve booked your cruise, it’s a good idea to start thinking about travel insurance.

While everyone’s circumstances are different, suitable travel insurance can provide peace of mind and help protect you against unexpected events before and during your trip. The information below is general and highlights some areas you may wish to consider when comparing policies.

Cancellation Cover

One of the first things to look at is cancellation cover.

Even if your cruise is considered a domestic voyage, cancellation fees can still be substantial if you need to cancel close to departure. Many domestic travel insurance policies include cancellation benefits, but the level of cover varies considerably between providers.

When comparing policies, check whether the cancellation benefit would be sufficient to cover the total cost of your holiday should an unforeseen illness, injury, or other covered event prevent you from travelling.

Emergency Medical Evacuation

If your cruise visits remote destinations such as the Kimberley, understand what your policy covers in the event of a medical emergency.

The Kimberley is famous for its spectacular scenery and remoteness, but that same remoteness can make emergency assistance more complex if it is ever required. In some situations, evacuation may involve specialist operators and can be costly.

When reviewing policies, check whether emergency medical evacuation from a vessel in Australian coastal waters is included and whether any limits or exclusions apply.

Read the Fine Print

Insurance policies vary significantly, particularly regarding where cover applies.

For example, some policies specifically refer to “Australian coastal waters”, while others may have different definitions or limitations. If you’re unsure whether a policy is suitable for your cruise itinerary, always ask the insurer for clarification.

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions

If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, take the time to understand how they are treated under the policy.

Some insurers automatically cover certain medical conditions, while others may require a medical assessment or charge an additional premium. Every insurer has different rules, so it’s important to review the policy documentation carefully and disclose any relevant medical information when requested.

A Little Preparation Goes a Long Way

Travel insurance isn’t the most exciting part of planning a cruise, but spending a little time comparing policies can help you better understand available cover and choose an option that suits your needs.

As with any financial product, be sure to read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and consider your own circumstances before making a decision.

For Kimberley cruising, when obtaining a quote through the below link, the following selections may be applicable:

All Other Destinations

What travellers say

“Their product knowledge is amazing”

I am very impressed with this company. All the staff I have dealt with have been extremely helpful and courteous, even when I have had to change my travel plans. They went out of their way to assist me with the changes. Their product knowledge is amazing and their help in arranging accommodation and tours has been fabulous. Their offer of two free nights accommodation and a free Broome sightseeing tour is an added bonus. I am very happy that I have booked with them and would thoroughly recommend them.
