Angkor War without the crowds? (Well sort of….)

I have just returned from a wonderful Mekong river cruise from Ho Chi Minh City to Siem Reap.

This is one of the many photos I took at the Angkor Wat complex in Cambodia.

Can you tell what’s unusual about this photo?

People…..hardly any people…

Angkor Wat October 2024 – where is everyone?

No crowds. No jostling groups. No selfie sticks (well not many)

This temple was featured in the movie ‘Tomb Raider’ so it is one of the most popular ones for photos. It used to be jam packed with tourists.

I’m not claiming Angkor Wat was deserted. There were other tourists there; of course.

But compared to pre-COVID days the numbers were so much lower; mainly because Chinese tourism has not returned as yet.

I loved this trip; 13 days through Vietnam and Cambodia by luxury river cruise. The people, the food, the culture and the history (including the grim 1970s history) made this one of the best trips I have taken.

The highlights of Indochina are definitely the people and the food!

I am writing a guide to Mekong River cruising and I’ll send that out soon.

But in the meantime, if anyone would like an informal chat about Mekong River cruising between Vietnam and Cambodia then please e-mail me and we can set up a time for me to give you a call.

Or book in a time for me to call you at a suitable time.

There are a variety of great river cruise vessels along the Mekong – catering to all styles of traveller

If you have been interested in this trip for a while then do it soon before the selfie sticks come back!
