Travelogue: Exploring the Kimberley with Justine, our Expedition Partner

Ever dreamt of exploring the Kimberley? Our Expedition Partner, Justine, shares her firsthand experience aboard the Kimberley Quest II, revealing the magic of this remote region and inspiring you to plan your own adventure.

The Kimberley.

The name itself evokes images of rugged landscapes, picturesque gorges, and rushing water.

In September 2024, I embarked on an unforgettable journey to this remote corner of Western Australia aboard the luxurious small ship, Kimberley Quest II.

It was an adventure that exceeded all expectations.

Kimberley Quest is one of the few companies still allowed through the Horizontal Falls.

What a way to join your cruise — a helicopter flight over the Mitchell Falls.

From the moment I boarded, the intimate atmosphere was apparent.

With just eighteen guests, the voyage felt personal and welcoming.

Strangers quickly became friends, united by the shared experience of witnessing the Kimberley’s beauty.

The landscapes are simply captivating.

Montgomery Reef’s dramatic tidal movements, where the reef appears to rise from the ocean, left me speechless.

The power of nature at Horizontal Falls, where surging tides create a mesmerising spectacle, was truly humbling.

These are just glimpses of the countless natural wonders the Kimberley offers.

Whether it’s Ruby Falls, Raft Point, or one of many walks, the art and scenery never gets old.

Whether it’s Ruby Falls, Raft Point, or one of many walks, the art and scenery never gets old.

But the Kimberley is more than just stunning scenery.

It’s a region steeped in history, where ancient Indigenous culture intertwines with echoes of World War II and the stories etched into the very rocks.

Learning about the rich Aboriginal heritage, exploring historical sites, and understanding the geological forces that shaped this land added profound depth to the journey.

The Kimberley Quest II was the perfect vessel for our adventure.

Its small size allowed access to secluded bays and hidden gems.

The crew’s knowledge and passion for the region were infectious, ensuring every detail was taken care of.

This allowed us to relax and fully immerse ourselves in the experience.

This trip wasn’t just a holiday; it was an adventure of discovery, a chance to connect with both nature and fellow travellers.

The Kimberley’s magic leaves an imprint that stays with you.

I left with a deep appreciation for this extraordinary part of the world and memories I’ll cherish forever.

If you’re looking for an adventure that will stay with you long after you return, I highly recommend the Kimberley Quest.

I can help you create a truly memorable trip.

What travellers say

“Their product knowledge is amazing”

I am very impressed with this company. All the staff I have dealt with have been extremely helpful and courteous, even when I have had to change my travel plans. They went out of their way to assist me with the changes. Their product knowledge is amazing and their help in arranging accommodation and tours has been fabulous. Their offer of two free nights accommodation and a free Broome sightseeing tour is an added bonus. I am very happy that I have booked with them and would thoroughly recommend them.

“The cruise suited us perfectly”

We were very pleased with the help we received from Jenny and Simon when we were deciding on which cruise to choose for our Kimberley holiday. The cruise we settled for, Coral Expeditions, suited us perfectly. We were also very pleased with the two free nights accommodation and hop on hop off bus pass in Darwin. Highly recommended.
