My recommendation for hotels and apartments in Darwin

Most Kimberley cruises either commence or conclude in Darwin. If your cruise departs from Darwin, we recommend arriving at least one night prior to ensure a relaxed start to your journey. If your cruise finishes in Darwin, we suggest staying an extra night as arrival times can occasionally be affected by tides and weather conditions.
We have always found Darwin to be one of Australia’s most unique and fascinating cities. Its tropical climate, laid-back atmosphere and rich cultural mix give it a character unlike anywhere else in the country. The city played a significant role during World War II, and its wartime history can still be explored through museums, heritage sites and memorials that provide a fascinating insight into Australia’s northern defence.
One of our favourite aspects of Darwin is its vibrant outdoor lifestyle. The Waterfront Precinct is a wonderful place to spend time, with its harbour views, restaurants, cafés, bars and lagoon swimming area. The city itself is easy to explore on foot and offers a variety of attractions including museums, galleries, local cafés and shopping.

If your visit coincides with the famous Mindil Beach Sunset Markets, you’re in for a treat. Watching the sunset over the Timor Sea while enjoying food from around the world is a quintessential Darwin experience. We also enjoy wandering through Darwin’s local markets, which showcase the city’s multicultural influences, fresh produce, arts and crafts, and relaxed tropical lifestyle.
For first-time visitors, we recommend allowing at least two full days to explore Darwin and experience everything the city has to offer. Or hiring a car and going further afield to Kakadu or Litchfield National Park.
