My Experience on Paspaley Pearl in the Kimberley
I sailed on Paspaley Pearl last year as part of a small industry group. The aim was simple—to properly experience the ship so we could confidently recommend it to our Travellers.
Since then, we’ve booked a significant number of clients on board, and that really comes down to how impressive the experience was.
In my opinion, Paspaley Pearl is one of the nicest small ships operating in the Kimberley—particularly when it comes to the outdoor spaces.
That’s what stood out to me the most.
The cabins were also a pleasant surprise. I stayed in an Ocean Cabin on the lower deck, and it felt well thought through. A really nice, comfortable bed, and importantly, a bathroom that felt like a real bathroom, not a wet room. That’s something many Travellers don’t realise they’ll appreciate until they have it. USB ports, hairdryers, and space to unpack.
Service on board was another highlight.
The hospitality team, predominantly Filipino, delivered that warm, intuitive style of service that makes you feel completely looked after without it ever feeling overdone. Nothing was too much trouble. I remember needing a top pressed one evening, and it was taken care of immediately—they wouldn’t even let me do it myself. Little touches like that stay with you.
The expedition team were a mix of Australian and European staff—knowledgeable, approachable, and clearly passionate about the region. They added depth to the experience through briefings and insights, without ever making it feel overly formal.
Another thing I really valued when I was on board was the expedition team. Having that number of experts travelling with you adds a completely different dimension to the journey.
They’re there alongside you, out on excursions and back on board, helping you understand what you’re seeing, whether it’s the history of the region, the geology, or wildlife. Have someone there to ask more indepth questions is great.
Food was consistently excellent. It’s always a big part of any trip, and here it didn’t disappoint. The quality was high, and the included wines were very good—certainly more than enough for most people who enjoy a nice glass at the end of the day. During the day we’d sit out at the dining table on the back deck and in the evening dine in the lovely dinning room.
One thing that really sets Paspaley Pearl apart is that it’s one of the few small ships in the Kimberley to offer balcony cabins, fishing opportunities, and an onboard expert expedition team delivering daily excursions. That combination is quite rare in the region.
All in all, it’s a genuinely special experience.
It won’t be the right fit for everyone—but for the right Traveller, particularly those looking for a comfortable, well-paced Kimberley experience with thoughtful service and beautiful spaces to relax, I would absolutely recommend Paspaley Pearl.
